Older models appear to be betterReview date: 2010-07-03 Rating: 8 out of 10I noticed a comment about problems with channel switching causing volumes spikes, so I thought I'd chip in with a review for this amp...
My model is an older model in the VT range, I've had it for about 4 years. It looks identical to the diplayed model but after reading the description, mine appears to have fewer amp models and only 2 switchable channels (for which I bought a seperate footswitch thhat only has two buttons on it). I have never had a problem with volume spikes when switching channels.
Perfect for:
Home practice
Going in the car boot to drive to friends houses for a jamming session
Pub and club gigs
Beginner-intermediate players
Almost any style of playing can be worked out of it (for really heavy metal styles, invest in a Boss Metalcore pedal).
ReviewsFantastic amp.Review date: 2010-06-18 Rating: 10 out of 10I have owned quite a few amps. in the past including other Vox amps. but I can honestly say that this beats them all. All of the model amp. settings are great and the effects including delay are brilliant. You would pay more than this just for a good effects processor and you are also getting a fantastic 30 watt amp. as well. Quality of manufacture is fine and you are getting the best of both worlds as although it is a digital amp., it also has a valve section which gives that realistic feel. Both clean and distortion settings sound great and there are also 22 song presets which are modelled on famous songs including Paranoid and Day Tripper etc. This is the number 1 practice amp. at the moment and it makes it a pleasure to play guitar on.Amazing Piece of KitReview date: 2010-02-22 Rating: 10 out of 10My three previoius combos have been Marshall, so this was a step into the unknown for me.
OK it's built in Vietnam and I don't think their quality control is on the button. When I took it out of the box the first thing I noticed was the glue stains on the covering. These were esaily cleaned off, but they shouldn't have been there in the first place. Some of the screws were loose and needed to be tightened. The black leatherette covering is the cheapest and thinnest I have ever seen, it's easy to see where the bean counters have shaved a few pennies on costs. Fortunately this is where my reservations end.
The switches, knobs and sockets are all positive and have a quality feel. I love the chicken feet knobs, they make it so easy to see what your settings are, Once I turned it on I was blown away by the sounds. From crystal clear bell tones to metal it's all there. As you will be aware, it mimics 22 different amps with 3 presets per amp, giving the total 66 presets. These are very easy to access, this amp is a breeze to use.
The best way to explore this amp is to go into manual mode and work through the sounds yourself. The tones are just awesome. On the Vox website, you can find settings that other people have uploaded, this makes finding a great sound easy. I'm not going to comment on the effects, I'm enjoying using the pure amp sounds so much I've not spent much time using anything more than the delay. One month down the line, I smile every time I use it. This has to be the best sounding, best value range of amps out there. This amp actually makes me want to play, thats why it gets the 5 star rating.
Vox VT30 Valvetronix Electric Guitar Amplifier Comboawesome value ampReview date: 2010-02-10 Rating: 10 out of 10Vox VT30 Valvetronix Electric Guitar Amplifier ComboArived well packaged within 4 days. For the price I would have been happy to get just 1 amp,but in effect I got 22 of the most sought after amps ever made and 11 effects pedals in 1 box, because they're all digitally built in then fed through a dual tube to get that real amp sound, it is so vesatile. You could never get bored with it as there are so many different sounds (66 preset combinations).I havn't cranked the volume up past half via the wattage dial for fear of upsetting neighbours tho it does take headphones.I was tempted to go out and buy any old random amp just to get started but I'm glad I chose this one.Sorry if I sound like an advertisement for VOX but it is amazing, especially for the price. It makes you want to plug in and play, you can get any sound youre looking for out of it.A real nasty surpriseReview date: 2009-08-24 Rating: 2 out of 10First I should state my credentials. I have not only owned one of these but three in the space of one month! Why you may ask? Well, the fact is that you cannot switch channels without a loud and annoying volume spike ruining the sound of whatever you were trying to come up with. This makes this product 100% useless for serious practice or small gigging which it should be suitable for. Vox of course have tried to brush this under the carpet, but, following my posting on their forum, it appears that this problem affects the whole vt range. Their slow dragged out responses are a terrible indictment of their approach to customer service as more and more users have experienced this problem (I particularly like the cry for help from one contributor "Does anyone NOT have this problem with their amp?" The answer is "no" of course). The fact of the matter is that these amps should be recalled and fixed. Me, I went away and swapped it for the immeasurably superior Fender Superchamp xd. It may cost more but it is definitely worth the difference! I will NEVER buy any Vox products again... I strongly recommend that you steer clear of all the superficially great features on this amp; there are other ones on the market that actually work properly.
