Good value, plenty of featuresReview date: 2010-08-28 Rating: 8 out of 10I'm a bit old-fashioned about metronomes, preferring the clockwork ones with a loud tick, or using the electronic one integral to my Clavinova. However, a pupil wanted an inexpensive one (clockwork is still a costly technology, it seems) so I investigated this Korg. I already have a Korg tuning aid and this device is the same shape and size, but a nice shade of blue.
It is a little fiddly to adjust using the buttons but easy enough to get the hang of. The options for beat counting and subdivision are useful. The volume is just about adequate for competing with a loud instrument such as a piano. It has the possibility of playing through earphones too, which may well help - I haven't tried this.
The display is clear and there are features that will interest a wide range of musicians.
For the price, you really can't go wrong with this metronome. After all, a nice big clockwork metronome wagging away with resounding clicks costs a lot more money for fewer features and doubtful portability!
ReviewsGreat Product!Review date: 2010-08-01 Rating: 8 out of 10This is a great product!
It has a very bright and clear sound with a good volume adjuster.
When I play guitar I can easily hear the metronome over all my strumming (Although I do play acoustic) but if you are amplified then you can always plug the headphones in.
The volume adjusting wheel is good and has a great sound range.
The display is clear so you can easily what is going on, and what options you are selecting.
To insert the batteries you do have to remove the whole back of the device, which reveals all the microchips inside, this does seem somewhat silly and you have to be quite careful when putting the batteries in as not to nudge any wiring. Still, you won't need to replace the batteries often.
The buttons are well placed and easy to press and it has a tap option so you can tell the tempo of a song. Although this seems to vary a little when you tap to the beat, however it is normally no more than 5bpm out.
It has a very useful option of triplets and swing time. Which is very helpful and also a couple of semi-quaver rhythms.
It has a neat little stand on the back, which is quite useful to prop the device up.
The best thing is that whatever you set it to, it remembers that when it is switched on, so if you are practicing something at a certain tempo all week, you press the on button and are ready to go!
I recommend this product. It is simple, useful and well designed.RecommendReview date: 2010-07-07 Rating: 8 out of 10I play the flute and have found the metronome very useful in helping to count out the quaver beats. It can be heard above the flute if put on the music stand. Its worth playing around with it to find out what you can do, as I didn't find the instructions very clear. It is straightforward to use.Good value with good musical featuresReview date: 2010-06-14 Rating: 10 out of 10Previous reviewers have already mentioned many of the features. The instructions don't say how to activate the triplet and higher features. Found this by tapping the right hand up arrow. The highest beats to the bar is seven, thereafter you get the duplet, triplet, 1 - 3 triplet etc.
As a piano teacher the swinging arm and blinking spots on LH & RH of screen hold younger pupils gaze, who then see it as a game to play the notes 'on the beat'.
If practicing with a keyboard, an additional single earpiece fits snuggly under the head-phones.
The pulse and beat are loud enough to sound over an accoustic piano without spoiling the music making.
Have recommended this item to my pupils who find counting the beat and playing at the same time a little challenging. Not Worth ItReview date: 2010-06-11 Rating: 2 out of 10Yes its cheap. Yes its small. Yes it has a screen.
However, it only works in one ear when you plug in your headphones and the volume knob does either very quiet or loud and no in between.
Also, mine has now stopped producing sound after only a few months use.
Spend a bit more and get something that is good.
